Mike Bulat candlestick demo coming February 11

Postby normcloutier » Wed Jan 20, 2016 4:21 pm

WGNC member Mike Bulat will demonstrate how to turn off-axis candlesticks at the Feb. 11 meeting of the guild.

"The challenge with those candlesticks," Mike explains, "is that the disk is turned on two separate axis so you need to be very careful not to go too fast otherwise the disk will be disintegrated. Other challenges are finishing the bottom after the weight is added to the base using a four jaw chuck with a belt to avoid scratching the finish. Also sanding a multi-axis piece can be tricky."

The demo will begin at the usual 7pm meeting time at the NC State Crafts Center, and members and guests are all welcome. There will be an instant-gallery where members can have up to 3 of their pieces critiqued and photographed, and the usual raffel will be held at the close of the meeting at about 9pm.
